K-6 Science & Technology

Having taught and team-taught over 4,000 hours of Science & Technology lessons in K-6 classrooms over the past 7 years, Dr Simon Crook is one of the most experienced practitioners of primary Science & Technology in the state. He was heavily involved in the consultations for the new syllabus and has published two acclaimed papers on teaching K-6 Science & Technology: Five challenges for science in Australian primary schools in The Conversation; and Five ways to win with the new K-6 Science and Technology syllabus for ABC Education. Previously, Simon was Senior eLearning Adviser to 151 schools, K-12, assisting teachers with integrating Digital Technologies in their classrooms. He was also on the initial (then) BOSTES Reference Group for Digital Technologies.

Physics

Dr Simon Crook is a very experienced HSC Physics teacher and provider of Physics professional learning, with a PhD in Physics Educations Research (USyd) and a BSc (Hons) in Physics (Manchester). Simon has been working with many high schools and school systems to best prepare their teachers and students for HSC Physics, including his regular client schools. In addition, Simon has been in regular dialogue with STANSW, NESA and The University of Sydney, as well as having articles published in The Conversation and Australian Physics, regarding the Physics syllabus. As such, Simon is in the unique position of currently teaching to a wide variety of students while delivering many professional learning and student workshops around the Physics syllabus. Biology

Lauren Hesse is passionate about education and working with both students and teachers to improve their understanding of themselves as learners. She has ten years teaching experience and has taught students from diverse social backgrounds, with a range of different abilities. Lauren works at Hunter School of Performing Arts in Newcastle, where she teaches Biology and Science Extension. She has extensive marking experience in Biology, including as a Senior Marker. Lauren is excited to share her experiences and skills with teachers and students through our professional learning workshops.

Chemistry

Antonia Wilkins is a Chemistry teacher with over 15 years experience in schools in Australia and overseas. She has taught HSC Chemistry (both new and old syllabuses) , A Level Chemistry (Cambridge International Examinations) and has been an HSC Chemistry marker. Antonia has been involved in developing teacher education programs for an international education body and is particularly passionate about helping teachers unpack complex concepts for their students.

Science Extension and Investigating Science

Bill Matchett has worked as a Science Teacher in South West Sydney since 1995, starting at Elizabeth Macarthur HS before moving to Westfields Sports HS as Head of Science. He is currently Head of Science at Macquarie Fields HS. Bill is working with LMC developing networks for Science Extension. He is an experienced HSC marker, and senior HSC marker, and has written text resources for Nelson Cengage, including the Investigating Science in Focus series.

Earth & Environmental Science

Chris Ferry is a Head Teacher Science and holds a B.S Science Education in Environmental Sciences and Geology. He has been teaching Earth & Environmental Science for 13 years (plus Physics, Investigating Science). Chris has many years experience of EES HSC Marking including as a Senior and Judge Marker. He has also been a Trial Exam Convenor and worked with pre-service teachers.
